A Kickoff to Remember
There was once a time in Birmingham when I wished the city would be more fashion forward. Well as of October 2017, a new wave of creatives founded Magic City fashion Week. Now there is a professional platform for Birmingham and surrounding creatives to showcase their work.
This weekend was nothing short of amazing, the atmosphere, people and the ambiance were all perfection. The Season II MCFW Kick Off Fundraiser was hosted at The Canary Gallery in downtown Birmingham. The place is just a structurally beautiful building and the staff was on top of their game to make sure we were taken care of the entire time.
It’s no secret that the founders, alongside the entire team work diligently to get spread their vision throughout Birmingham. From beginning to end you could tell that they put a lot of love and hard work into making sure everything was top-notch.
The Kickoff Party…WOW is all I could say. The evening was an elegant and amazing mixer filled with laughter, new connections, information and the most important: details of the fashion week schedule and the competitors for this year’s Splashiversary Emerging Designer Competition!
The theme of the night was RED THREADS! As you can see the entire building was illuminated with read threads as each person executed their own version of the color red. This color is also symbolic of MCFW’s efforts to bring awareness to HIV awareness and prevention.
Everyone looked amazing in their splashes of red and we lit up the Canary Gallery like no other.
It’s no secret that Birmingham has amazing creatives. Events like this help solidify that fact and brings the beauty of the city into one place. The night not only highlighted creativity in the city but also brought awareness to HIV. Sponsors, Birmingham AIDS Outreach and the HIV Prevention Network were present at the Kickoff Fundraiser to give insight on HIV, encourage everyone to know their status, and help Magic City Fashion Week kick off another year of reducing stigma in Birmingham.
Overall, the night was one to remember. I cannot wait until Fashion Week begins in October. Please check out our GoFundme and donate to help us keep this creative engine going!
